Plastic Bag Reduction Bill

There is a huge problem in the world. How do we humans help prevent it? The problem is the
whole idea of plastic bags. Plastic bags are made from oil which an army of soldiers are fighting for in
the countries of Iraq and Iran. Plastic bags satisfy some people but others feel they are destroying the
world. My opinion on this topic is that plastic bags should be banned. No animal should have to suffer
just because of one plastic bag they might have eaten or one bag that might have choked them around
the neck. Plastic bags are out of control out there in the world. Some people are very aware about
problems like this and some people are ignorant about problems like this.
Plastic bags cause a lot of problems in the world such as hurting or even killing marine animals
including birds. More then 1 million marine animals die each year due to plastic bags. More then
100,000 birds are killed each year. These animals are either suffocated or drowned. They are suffocated
because the plastic bags are either around their neck or the bag has literally covered their body to where
they can't breathe. They are drowned because the bag my get caught on their fin and they can't swim
and they get trapped. Some marine animals such as turtles have plastic bags as apart of their diet.
Plastic bags don't just kill animals they create pollution. Plastic bags are made out of a natural oil called
polyethylene. They take the polyethylene in the factory and make it into plastic bags. Even after a
plastic bag degrades it has toxic fumes from the chemicals that are mixed in with the oil. One plastic
bag takes 1,000 years to degrade only in a landfill.

Plastic bags aren't the only bag out in the world. There are paper and cloth. The difference between the
three is that paper is made out of trees which we can replant and cloth is made from different materials
wether they are sewn together or even made out of recycled materials. Plastic bags may be more
durable then paper but when paper is made it does not pollute as much. As we all know paper is made
out of trees and we cut down trees to make those paper bags. Unlike oil trees can be replanted and
reused over time. Cloth bags have the materials to where they could be used many more times then both
plastic and paper. You can wash them and reuse them and reuse them.
The solution of the plastic bags is using either paper and or cloth bags. If you don't want to that you
may use plastic bags and then reuse them when you go to the store and if they rip see if you can make
something out of them. Me personally I would use cloth or paper but at the moment I do use plastic
bags,cloth bags and paper bags. I am going to help out and try just using cloth or paper. So lets help
change the world together as one island.
