I was forwarded this information from a local website. This information re- confirms the need to deny the
appointment of Mr. Travalino to the important Planning commission post.

ON Tuesday the 4th - -- at 1:30 pm at the Council's Planning Committee meeting important to speak against the
appointment of Mark Travalino.(of the Hawaii Laborers Union) not against him personally - -- but because the
commission is being stacked with pro - development folks. There should be balance with socio- cultural interests and
environmental interests represented -- and not folks whose other alliances are pro - development.
I assume Mayor Kenoi is making this recommendation (in good faith) to forward his economic growth agenda -
but this is a short - sighted way of doing so - -in disregard of cultural and environmental needs -- forsaken to pursue
pure economic motives of private parties wanting to add to the already over supply of residential and commercial
development -- without public infrastructure to support.
We need to encourage him to be more far - sighted... - -- think about Hawaii Constitution's Public Trust doctrine and
now in the County Charter affirming that government decision- making shall be guided by conservation principles
about natural and cultural resources to care for the interests of both present and future generations.
Recent appointments by Kenoi to the Planning Commission are antithetical to that more far - sighted view of
governing... consider Brandi Beaudet's appointment to this commission. He is the land development manager for
Parker Ranch. How could he, in keeping with his employment interests, vote to curb development for any reason-- -
that, at a later date, could easily be similarly requested by Parker Ranch ? I consider that an inherent conflict of
interest.
Likewise, here is a union jobs representative: How could this nominee Mark Travalino, in keeping with his jobs
oriented union interest, vote to curb development even if doing so is harmful to environmental and cultural interests.
For practical purposes, another conflict of interest.
