Subject: Leeward Planning Commission Appointment
Mark Travalino of the Hawaii Laborer's Union is up for nomination to the Planning Commission.
By nature of his work, he is obligated to represent labor. That translates into construction jobs. I do not believe
he would choose to vote with the Kona Community Development Plan if it meant a loss of work for the body he
represents.
I'm sure he is competent and capable. I am also sure that he would not turn down, or look askance, at an
opportunity for jobs in the construction industry even if it were to contradict public input on the KCD plan.
I do not believe he would honor the efforts and input of the Kona community. Please do not confirm his
appointment.
Were I not on Oahu at this time, I would make this testimony public at your Tuesday meeting. Thanks for coming
to Kona and listening to the public.
