Re: Res. 41 -11 water system for KOVP

To: Public Works / Intergovernmental Relations Committee,
Here we are ... we have come a long, long way; all the while praying, and
believing, that our system of government is fair, with justice (and water) for all.
And I continue to believe it. So, a very sincere mahalo nui for your kokua in
helping us to finally obtain this precious, life sustaining resource ... water.
Tears come to my eyes as I recount the memory of this portion of my
testimony submitted last year:
I have been a resident of Kona for over 35 years and have owned my
beautiful Retirement home in Kona Ocean View Properties for over 10
years. My struggle to obtain water for my family over the years has
certainly been challenging, even frightening at times. When a brush on
my property suddenly burst into flame, my neighbors rallied round to help
my son and I save our home ... I was grateful that we had some water in
our catchment at the time.
Also, I've been given notice that our neighbors, who have graciously shared their
waterline with us these past few years, have placed their home on the market.
Without water I would be forced to sell my own home, because we no longer
have our old, dilapidated tank, and cannot afford a new catchment system.
Lastly, as a 60 year old who has dedicated countless hours of volunteer service
to our Kona community, I ask for your continued consideration on my own behalf,
and on behalf of our Puukala community of good, hardworking, tax paying
citizens who also appreciate the time and energy you have put toward our well
being.
Mahalo nui loa & blessings to each of you & yours,
Laura Bollinger
