Dear County Council Members,
I am writing this letter to express my support of the "Plastic Bag
Reduction Bill ". I am extremely concerned about the ill effects that plastics
have on our environment. Plastics from bags are filling our landfills, and
leaching toxic chemicals into our soil and water sources. They also have a
direct negative impact on our precious living organisms, as they often
mistake plastics for food, or become entangled and trapped by plastic
products.
The rates in which we use plastic bags are alarming. It is a mindless
convenience that could be changed. I believe that our community will quickly
adjust to a small tax on bags, or another method that would encourage
people to bring reusable bags for their purchased items. We need to follow
the pursuit of many other communities that have successfully reduced the
use of plastic bags.
We have the opportunity and responsibility to make a change that will
have lasting impacts on our environment. I urge you to please approve the
"Plastic Bag Reduction Bill ".
