HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0064.045 2010-2012 Dear County Council Members, I am concerned about our islands over - consumption of plastic bags. I think that we should make an effort to lessen the amount of plastic bags that we find in the environment and super markets. This problem is becoming much worse during our generation because we are depending more on what we consume rather than ourselves. The plastic that we throw out is filling our landfills and it takes too long to decompose. Also, plastic bags are easily caught in the wind, which can blow it all the way to the ocean, where sea animals can mistake it for food. Sea turtles always mistake plastic bags for jelly fish, their favorite snack, which can then get either stuck in their throats or fill up in their stomachs. Plastic products are also getting into our systems from all of our other plastic products. Plastic containers, bags, packaging, even infant toys are made of plastic! I'm worried about the effect of plastic on our community. I hope that we can eventually just use only what we need, and I hope that this will make a good impact on our environment.
