I am a student at Parker School in Waimea, Hawaii. This email is regarding the plastic
bag reduction proposal. I would love to see no plastic bags in my community's super markets,
but I know that we would have to use more renewable resources, and I don't think we have come
that far. Plastic bags affect everyone, and everything. The chemicals in plastic bags leak into our
bodies, and can harm our environment. Animals such as seagulls are slowly dying, because of
consuming plastic from our bags. Turtles mistake plastic bags for their favorite snack, jelly fish,
and suffocate or digest it and fill up with harsh plastic chemicals. The Great Pacific Garbage
Patch is surrounding our islands and is made up of the many coastal countries and islands that
consume plastic chemicals. Other islands such as a manmade island called Seagull Island is
being destroyed by plastic and other harmful waste. We can stop this. But does our generation
understand its consequences? Do we know we are affecting everyone? M
The ban or reduction of plastic bags is wise! I agree with this proposal, and I hope to see it move
forward.
