HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0064.035 2010-2012 Dear County Council Members, I am a student at Parker School in the 7th grade. Recently, after watching a movie entitled "Bag It ", I believe that we need to reduce the amount of plastic bags produced. Plastic bags are a big issue everywhere. They're used every day and are thrown out, filling our landfills, invading the environment. Harmful chemical components are within plastic and it isn't good for us or other animals. Plastic lines the containers we eat and drink in. I know from my personal life, my family and I use plastic bags almost every day. One thing we try to do is bring our own bags to the market and reuse the plastic bags that we've received. Plastic contaminates our already full landfills and doesn't decompose. It just sits there for millions of years either floating out into the ocean or sitting in the landfills. Some marine species actually eat the plastic floating in the water. This kills marine life. The main message I would like for you county council members to consider is reducing the plastic bag production. It'd be a more environmentally friendly investment. So thank you for taking the time to read my letter to express my concerns for our future. Sincerely, Skye Waipa Parker School 7` Grade Comm. No. T• Ref. To. L Ref. Date FEB 2 1
