Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 282-00, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 282-00, transmitted by Executive Assistant R.B. Legaspi, via Communication
No. 848, dated July 12, 2000, approves the establishment of a sister-city relationship between
Sumoto City (Awaji Island), Japan and the County of Hawaii.
This Resolution proposes to establish a service agreement for the purpose of maintaining and
sustaining a viable and meaningful sister-city relationship between the County of Hawaii and
Sumoto City, Japan.
A sister-city program will benefit the people of the affiliated cities through the exchange of
cultural exhibits, educational city programs, agricultural pursuits, information relative to
economic development of mutual interest, and other matters of common interest.
Some members of Your Committee requested an annual report which summazizes the activities
conducted by the County of Hawai`i's sister cities and identifies the sister cities for which no
activity has occurred within five years, pursuant to Section 2-166, of the Hawaii County Code.
For informational purposes, Mr. Tyler voted kanalua twice.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 282-00
and recommends its adoption.
