Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Bill No. 34, reports as follows:
Bill No. 34, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, via Communication No. 136 dated March 3, 2011,
is an Ordinance amending Section 25 -8 -33 (City of Hilo zone map), Article 8, Chapter 25 (Zoning
Code) of the Hawai'i County Code 1983 (2005 Edition), by changing the district classification from
Agricultural — three acres (A -3a) to Single - Family Residential — 40,000 square feet (RS -40) at Waiakea,
South Hilo, Hawai'i, covered by tax map key 2- 4- 070:portion 001.
Mr. Michael Frenz, the applicant, was present and did not have any comments but offered to answer
questions.
Councilmember Yoshimoto stated that Mr. Frenz is in his district and he supports this bill.
Councilmember Ford asked if the drainage channel overflows or causes problems; and if the parcel
being divided was abutting the stream.
Mr. Frenz replied that the parcel is abutting the stream but does not overflow.
Your Committee on Planning is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 34 and
recommends it pass first reading.
