Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 52 -11, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 52 -11, transmitted by Director of Finance Nancy Crawford via
Communication No. 147, dated March 22, 2011, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of a
new J.B. Knowles Inc. CHOPPER SPOTTERS; a unique, patented machine used to handle
helicopters on the pavement, to the Hawaii Fire Department. This equipment, valued at
$11,149, will be used to provide a safer means to deploy a helicopter designated as Chopper 1
from the hanger when personnel are limited.
Fire Chief Darryl Oliveira was present at the meeting and described the apparatus when
questioned by Your Committee.
Pursuant to Article XIIL Section 13 -12, Hawai'i County Charter the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money.
A letter of appreciation will be sent to donor Daniel Sayre Memorial Foundation c/o Ms. Laura
Mallery- Sayre, P.O. Box 1285, Kailua -Kona, Hawai`i 96745, acknowledging this generous
donation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 52 -11,
and recommends its adoption.
