The grant's purpose is to provide funding directly to fire departments and volunteer firefighter interest organizations in order to help them increase the number of trained, "front line" firefighters available in their communities. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $100,000 to the SAFER program grant account.
