JM tV 0 <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII •_ STATE OF HAWAII <br /> 7TH OF•M'i <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 67 11 <br /> A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF DECLARING THE MONTH OF MAY, 2011 <br /> "NATIONAL DRUG COURT MONTH." <br /> WHEREAS, in an effort to educate communities, influence policymakers, and <br /> celebrate the positive social impacts Drug Courts have had upon our nation's communities, <br /> the National Association of Drug Court Professionals has declared the month of May, 2011 <br /> "National Drug Court Month, "; and <br /> WHEREAS, under the theme "Drug Courts: A Proven Budget Solution," Drug Courts <br /> are focusing their attention on the monumental societal and economic benefits of Drug Courts <br /> at a time when local, state and federal budgets are being cut; and <br /> WHEREAS, with over 200 graduations held and approximately 2,300 graduates <br /> nationwide, the national Drug Court program has proven successful and is reflective of the <br /> many lives saved, families reunited, and communities restored; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Big Island Drug Court program was established in October 2002 and <br /> has experienced similar successes to that of other Drug Courts throughout the nation; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council congratulates and supports the profound <br /> contributions of judges, prosecutors, probation officers, defense attorneys, treatment <br /> providers, rehabilitation professionals, law enforcement personnel, researchers, educators, <br /> national and community leaders, and many others who are dedicated to the Drug Court <br /> program movement; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Council Hawaii County Council stands in unity with the nation in <br /> its fight against drug abuse in America; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it <br /> recognizes the month of May, 2011 as "National Drug Court Month" and supports the efforts <br /> of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals in increasing a nationwide awareness <br /> of Drug Courts and its mission. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Hawaii County Council acknowledges, <br /> congratulates, and thanks all the practitioners and participants who have contributed to the <br /> growing success of the Drug Court program. <br />
