No. 59 -11 PLACE: Council Chambers West Hawai`i Civic Center 74 -5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, Building A Kona, Hawai`i TIME: 1:30 p.m. Council Chair and Members Hawai`i County Council Hilo, Hawai`i 96720 Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation, to which was referred Resolution 59 -11, reports as follows: Resolution 59 -11, transmitted by Councilmember K. Angel Pilago, dated April 6, 2011, requesting Governor Neil Abercrombie set aside sixty acres of land located in the vicinity of Manini`owaliawake`e, North Kona, Hawai`i, for the establishment of a West Hawai`i multi- purpose and inter - generational veterans center. There were four testifiers in Kona all testifying in support of the resolution, one being a former Hawai`i County Councilmember. One of the testifiers commented how good it would be for the vets to have medical and administrative services provided at one location. Councilmember Pilago spoke on behalf of the resolution stating how proud he was to bring this forward and commenting that it really came from community members, vets, families and even grandchildren of vets. He said it was long overdue and that for him it created a sense of righteousness providing us with the opportunity to show that we value our past and have hope and optimism for the future. He informed your committee members that every week we are currently loosing four to eight vets, and that we must lobby strongly at the State Legislature to continue moving this forward and to see it become a reality. Your Committee on Public Works and Parks and Recreation is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 59 -11, and recommends its adoption. bl AYES NOES A &E EX Respectfully submitted, BLAS X FORD x COMMITTEE ON PUBLIC WORKS & HOFFMANN x PARKS AND RECREATION IKEDA X ONISHI X PILAGO X SMART x FRED BLAS, CHAIR YAGONG X PWPRC REPORT NO. 18 YOSHIMOTO X ADOPTED: MAY 0 4 201t
