REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />DATE: August 8, 2000 Re: Comm. No. 862 /Res. No. 304 -00 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />TIME: 10:10 A.M. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 304 -00, reports as follows: <br />Resolution No. 304 -00, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 291 by Acting Director of Finance Dixie <br />Keatsu, via Communication No. 862, dated July 12, 2000, authorizes the County of Hawaii to enter into <br />an agreement with the State Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force through the U.S. <br />Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration for a Organized Crime Drug Enforcement <br />Task Force ( OCDETF) grant. <br />The OCDETF through the Drug Enforcement Administration is desirous of providing funding for <br />overtime expenses and travel costs incurred during specific investigations and prosecutions. <br />The Hawaii County Police Department is ready and willing to proceed with its obligations for <br />the OCDETF. <br />Pursuant to Section 46 -7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, county departments must obtain the consent of the <br />council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to be taken <br />pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds or other <br />assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those powers. <br />Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 304 -00 and <br />recommends its adoption. <br />smc <br />Respectfully submitted <br />COMMITTEE ON FINANCE <br />AARON S.Y.
