Re: Presentation by Gary Shimabukuro of Laulima Hawai`i
For your review and consideration is the attached communication from First Deputy Prosecuting
Attorney Charlene Iboshi requesting 35 minutes for a presentation by Gary Shimabukuro of
Laulima Hawai`i. Additionally, I wish to allow 25 minutes for question and answer time.
Mr. Shimabukuro is a noted speaker on drugs, and will speak on the subject of new drugs
entering Hawaii. This program is a part of "Drug Court Awareness Month." I request this
presentation be placed on the agenda for the Human Services, Social Services and Public Safety
Committee (HSSPSC) meeting of May 16, 2011. As Mr. Shimabukuro has availed himself at
2:00 p.m. on that day, I request that HSSPSC be scheduled for that time.

Re: Presentation to Council by Gary Shimabukuro
We are very fortunate to have been able to obtain the services of Gary Shimabukuro of
Laulima Hawaii, noted speaker on drugs, for a community education event in Kona on Tuesday
May 17, 2011. Mr. Shimabukuro will be speaking on new drugs entering Hawai'i. This
program is part of "Drug Court Awareness Month."
Mr. Shimabukuro is available on May 18 and is interested in doing a presentation for the
Hawaii County Council. We realize that this date corresponds with an already scheduled County
Council Meeting in Hilo. If you would like to have Mr. Shimabukuro speak during the meeting
or at some other time on May 18, we would be very happy to make him available to you.
