RESOLUTION NO. 75 11
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A SPORTS
UTILITY VEHICLE FROM THE UNITED STATES MARSHALS SERVICE FOR USE IN
JOINT LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS
WHEREAS, the United States Marshals Service is donating a new 2010 Ford, Explorer
to the Hawaii County Police Department; and
WHEREAS, this vehicle, valued at $22,900.74, will be utilized when assisting with
operations of the Regional Fugitive Task Force, a joint law enforcement task force consisting of
federal, state, and local law enforcement authorities; and
WHEREAS, the primary mission of the Regional Fugitive Task Force is to investigate
and apprehend violent fugitives, thereby improving public safety and reducing violent crime; and
WHEREAS, this donation is being made pursuant to an existing memorandum of
understanding between the Hawaii County Police Department and the United States Marshals
Service; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13 -12, of the Hawaii County Charter provides that the
Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other
personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and Chapter 2, Article 30,
Section 2 -162 (a) of the Hawaii County Code states that any gifts or donations of money,
securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department
of Finance, may be accepted by resolution approved by the Council; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Police Department recommends the acceptance of this
donation; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in
accordance with Article XIII, Section 13 -12, of the Hawai'i County Charter, and Chapter 2,
Article 30, Section 2- 162(a) of the Hawai'i County Code, the Council of the County of Hawaii
accepts this donation.
