Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 306 -00, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 306 -00, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 298 by Acting Director of Finance
Dixie Keatsu, via Communication No. 873, dated July 26, 2000, authorizes the County of
Hawaii to enter into an agreement with the State Department of the Attorney General Crime
Prevention and Justice Assistance Division for a Violence Against Women grant.
The State Department of Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance has
authorized funding for expenses to provide salaries and wages for a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney
to prosecute domestic violence against women.
Pursuant to Section 46 -7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, county departments must obtain the consent
of the council to enter into agreements with the federal or state governments respecting action to
be taken pursuant to any of the powers granted by law to furnish, expend and receive any funds
or other assistance in connection with projects being or to be undertaken pursuant to those
powers.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 306 -00
and recommends its adoption.
