Resolution 68 -11 (SAFER)
The Hawaii Fire Department successfully received $100,000 from FEMA under the Staffing for
Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) program. This grant focuses on Volunteer
Firefighter Retention and is a recruitment and "retention" grant to support our volunteer program. The
marketing portion is to develop a public education and information video that will be distributed and
used in a variety of venues inclusive of community activities and school career exposure programs. The
grant will also fund travel costs for professional development and higher education (National Fire
Academy) participation for volunteers. The Federal share is $100,000 and there is no cost to the
County.
