Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 75 -11, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 75 -11, transmitted by Director of Finance Nancy Crawford via
Communication No. 202, dated May 4, 2011, authorizes the acceptance of a donation of a Sports
Utility Vehicle (SUV), valued at $22,900.74 from the United States Marshals Service for use in
joint law enforcement operations. This donation is being made pursuant to an existing
memorandum of understanding between the Hawai`i County Police Department and the United
States Marshals Service.
Police Department Assistant Chief Marshall Kanehailua appeared before Your Committee. Mr.
Kanehailua stated that joint law enforcement operations occur twice a year. The vehicle will be
assigned to the Administration Division, utilized by the Swat Team Section when not in use
during the joint law enforcement operations.
Pursuant to Article XII, Section 13 -12, Hawai`i County Charter the Council, on behalf of the
County, may accept gifts or donations of money.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 75 -11,
and recommends its adoption.
