Re: Acceptance of Donation
In accordance with (1) Article XIII, Section 13 -12, of the Hawaii County Charter, which
provides that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money,
securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate, and with
(2) Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2 -162 (b), of the Hawaii County Code, which states that a
gift or donation of money, securities, or personal property not covered by the capitalization
procedures (of the Department of Finance) shall be submitted to the Council by letter for its
approval, we request the Council's approval of the following donation:
One (1) bird cage and three (3) bird - reference books, with a total estimated value of
$100, to be used to help care for birds and provide additional educational material for
staff at the County of Hawai`i Department of Parks & Recreation's Pana`ewa Rainforest
Zoo and Gardens.
We ask that a letter of appreciation be sent to the donor, Ms. Gail Ellen Ackerman, HCR 1
Box 5496, Kea'au, HI 96749.

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS
NEEDED):
Gail Ackerman is an active volunteer at Pana`ewa Rainforest Zoo & Gardens and helps
with any bird related needs the zoo may have.
She has generously offered to donate a portable bird cage and 3 bird reference books for
use at the zoo.
This donation has an estimated value of $100 and will used to help care for birds as
well as provide additional educational material for the staff.
