While all of the proposed projects to be funded through this bill are important to our island's economy and infrastructure, I am particularly concerned about the repairs needed for the sewer main under Kalanianaole Avenue and the Kapiolani extension project in Hilo. A sewer main break that could dump sewage into Hilo Bay would be devastating for not only tourists visiting our island, but also for the thousands of residents who actively use the area for recreational purposes. Furthermore, the environmental devastation from such an occurrence would end up costing taxpayers considerably more than the cost of pro- active repairs. The Kapiolani extension will open up access to additional lands that will enable the continued growth and expansion of the UHH campus. UHH's impact on our island's economy has continued to grow, even during economic downturns, and we need to support their efforts in whatever ways we can — their success becomes Hawaii County's success. Thank you for your support. Aloha, Carol A. VanCamp HC2 Box 9547, Kea'au, HI 96749 T (808) 982 -9958 Comm. No. / $/• ZL Ref. Tot P►e+eiMaa C•wttw' fief. Dote APR 20 20?) 4/20/2011
