TESTIMONY IF FAVOR OF FUNDING
FOR THE COUNTY BAND
Mr. Chair and members of the County Council, My name is Glenn Carvalho and
reside in Pepeekeo. My Grandfather (Jules) was a co- founder of the band, and
my father (Urban) was a long time Bandmaster.
I am writing in support of keeping the funding for the Hawaii County Band.
The Hawaii County Band has been around since 1883, the bands history is so
rich and powerful that 1 will not even attempt to touch on it, except to state that it
is a living treasure.
The County Band has been here for the people of this island in good times and
bad. To cut the funding with such short notice is an insult, not only to the past
and present band members, but their families, and the general public, resident
and visitor alike.
The cutting of funding for the County Band in an attempt to save money is like
taking a teaspoon of sand from Hapuna beach to save it from erosion. You can
say you did something, but in fact, you have accomplished nothing.
Therefore, I respectfully request that you continue to fund the Hawaii County
Band.
