As a musician, teacher and supporter of the Fine Arts, I find the action by Ms. Ford to do so to save the County money to be very disturbing. Like so many other institutions, the first on the chopping block, because for some ridiculous reason, some people think it is not important, is the Fine Arts. If you look at history and if you look at human statistics, you will find how it is a very important part of people's lives, even without really thinking so deeply on the subject. If I asked you to get rid of the fine arts in your lives, you would find that you would be without music, without architecture, without pictures, without creative works, without color! While that point might be a bit melodramatic, I can't think of any other way to make my point about how ludicrous it would be get rid of a culture that has been a part of Hawaii for so many years, and while I can understand that the County is not rich, and it needs to look at cutting back, I hope you will note, as I'm sure you already are aware, that we've learned that the expected real property revenues are expected to be higher than what the Mayor originally based his budget on, so do you really need to cut the County Band out of the budget? Truly, are the constituents of the County of Hawaii or your district wanting you to do this, Ms. Ford? is not the outpouring of the previous year's testimony toward the support of the County Band something you should be reflecting on? If it is not, then that is very disappointing. PLEASE KEEP OUR COUNTY BAND ALIVE! Thank you, BJ Soriano Comm. No. // •58 Ref. To: _'1Nm I 14p4y 5/16/2011 Ref. Dote
