Aloha,
Good morning — Council Members and fellow golfers. My name is Vince Kimura and today I
represent Big Island Jr Golf. Formulated in 2002, our non - profit jr golf program provides
opportunities for 88 boys and girls ranging in ages from 5 -17, and will host members from the
entire Hawaii Island. Big Island Jr Golf originated from Hilo Jr Golf, and continues to enjoy the
Hilo Municipal golf course with affordable monthly cards.
If the Muni green fees escalate to between $20 -$40, I believe our members will have to sort out
alternatives and seek other venues to practice. Families who can't afford this increase will
either resort to other sports or defray from a regular practice as some families have two or
more children in the Jr golf program. If you are a golfer, I think you will understand how
important it is to practice your golf game on or off the course.
Our program involves competitive golf and the Muni offers unique challenges for our Jr's that
are not found on other courses. Please consider retaining the monthly card system at a
reasonable cost fit for the community.
