Re: Operating Budget
The County of Hawaii has been awarded a $150,000 federal grant through the State of
Hawaii Department of the Attorney General. These funds are for the purpose of
enhancing awareness and prevention of elder abuse and exploitation, and to expedite
the prosecution of such cases.
An Elder Abuse and Exploitation Grant account was appropriated for $125,000 in
anticipation of grant funding for FY2011 -12. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance
amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional funds into this account,
bringing the total grant appropriation to $150,000.

A. REQUEST:
Appropriate additional revenue in the amount of $25,000 and distribute to designated accounts for the
disbursement of funds for the Elder Abuse & Exploitation Grant.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
We had been approved to receive $150,000 federal grant funds through the State of Hawaii Department of
the Attorney General for the purpose of enhancing awareness and prevention while expediting prosecution
of elder abuse and exploitation cases. $125,000 had previously been appropriated.
We are requesting $10,000 to be distributed to account 010.271.5271.87.104, and $15,000 be distributed to
account 010.271.5271.87.227
