HomeMy WebLinkAboutBIL 266 Draft 02 1996-1998COUNTY OF HAWAI= ` STATE OF HAWAII ' -�: J.• BILL NO. 266 ASR OR�NR'� ra ORDINANCE NO. 98 82 AN ORDINANCE NAMING A COUNTY PARK FACILITY PURSUANT TO CHAPTER 15, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO PARKS AND RECREATION BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: SECTION 1. Findings and purpose. The purpose of this ordinance is to name the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery "West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery-Pu'u Ho'omaha O Na Po'e Koa O Hawaii Komohana," pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8 of the Hawaii County Code of 1983 (1995 Edition) which establishes guidelines for the naming of County facilities. Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-67(a)(1) of the Hawaii County Code provides that an aesthetic area may "[b]e named, preferably in the Hawaiian language, in a manner which describes significant features or the geographic location of the aesthetic area." Furthermore, the council desires to further the policy of naming its aesthetic areas with respect for the traditional Hawaiian names for such locations. The name of "Pu'u Ho'omaha O Na Po'e Koa O Hawaii Komohana" means a Resting Place (or cemetery) of the Warriors (or soldiers) of West Hawaii. SECTION 2.' Notwithstanding any other law to the contrary, the West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery is hereby named "West Hawaii Veterans Cemetery-Pu'u Ho'omaha O Na Po'e Koa O Hawaii Komohana" which may be abbreviated'to "Pu'u Ho'omaha." SECTION 3. In the event that any portion of this ordinance is declared invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other parts of this ordinance. N • SECTION 4.
