Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of Kevin Balog of Hamakua to fill a vacancy
on the Hawaii County Board of Appeals, to replace ~Will~iam F. Green of Hilo,
whose term expired on December 31, 1997.
• Mr. Balog is a 31-year resident of Hawaii and since 1986 has been the Operation's
Manager for Edwin De Luz Ranch. He is a member of the Hamakua Business
Association, the Kalopa Community Association and the Hamakua Lions. He is a
Democrat.
If approved, he will begin serving in January, 1999, after his term as a member/chaiman
of the Hawaii County Planning Commission expires on December 31, 1998, and he will
serve the balance of the unexpired term which will end on December 31, 2002.
Should the Council require further information regarding this nomination, you may call
me at your earliest convenience.

Re: ATTACHED COMMUNICATION
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County
of Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to Communication No. 7 ,
regarding the nomination of Kevin Balog of Hamakua to fill a vacancy on the Hawaii
County Board of Appeals, waiving said referral from the Committee of Planning in order
that appropriate action can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such waiver be
granted.
