Dear Chairman Arakaki and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to submit the nomination of the following people to serve on the Hawaii County
Transportation Commission:
• Robert P. Pauole of Council District 3 is a lifetime resident of Hawaii and since 1995 has been self-
employed as a court reporter. If approved, Mr. Pauole will be replacing Paul Matsumoto of Council
District 3, whose term will expire on December 31, 1998, and will serve a term to end December 31,
2003. He has no political party affiliation.
• Barbara E. Dart of Council District 9 is a lifetime resident of Hawaii and since 1966 has been with
the Hawaii Economic Opportunity Council, and currently serves as its District Supervisor. Mrs. Dart
will serve the balance of the unexpired term, December 31, 2001, due to the seat being vacant
since 1996. She is a Democrat.
• Morris Ota of Council District 7 is a lifetime resident of Hawaii and since 1963 has been an
inspector with the State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources. He is being
reappointed, and if approved, will serve a term to end on December 31, 2003. He is a Democrat.

Re: Nominations of Robert P. Pauole, Barbara E. Dart, and Morris Ota to the Hawaii
County Transportation Commission.
Pursuant to Section 1(e) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County
of Hawaii, this written approval is submitted in regards to the attached, waiving said
referral from the Committee on Public Works & Parks in order that appropriate action
can be taken by the Council.
In reviewing the contents of the referral, it is deemed advisable that such waiver be
granted.
