I strongly encourage the Council to support the Open Space initiative with 2% (or more) of property tax revenue
as approved by voters of Hawaii County.
While the current economic situation is difficult, it should be viewed as an opportunity to protect more of our
natural resources at prices lower than we have seen for many years. Tourism is a key industry for our economy,
and the addition of new places for our fellow Hawaiians and our visitors to vacation at will provide the path to
recovery.
Let's not lose this opportunity to increase the recreational and cultural resources of our island.
