These funds are being given to the Hawaii Police Department to help cover the costs to bring a canine trainer to Hilo to work with a dog and handler. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the funds into the Hawaii Police Department's miscellaneous "Training" account. Kubojiri Police Chief, Hawai'i County Police Department 349 Kapiolani Street Hilo, Hawai'i 96720-3998 Dear Chief Kubojuri, The FRIENDS of the Children's Justice Center of West Hawai'i Board of Directors would like to donate $750.00 to the Hawai'i County Police Department for the purpose of funding the training and transport of a scent discriminating tracking dog and its trainer from North Carolina to Hilo, Hawai'i. It is our understanding that once in Hilo, the trainer will conduct additional critical training for both East and West Hawai'i dogs and their Hawai'i Police Department handlers. We acknowledge what an asset these scent discriminating dogs and handlers are to our community and support the trainings needed ensure effectiveness and quality of service when duty calls. Established as a 501 © 3 non - profit organization, the FRIENDS of the Children's Justice Center of West Hawai'i seeks to: • Provide assistance to children who have traumatized by sexual assault, physical abuse or neglect, or who are witnesses to violent crime; • To support the Children's Justice Center of West Hawai'i; • To promote the awareness and prevention of child abuse. For over 20 years, the FRIENDS have been committed to helping support the healing process for thousands of child and teen victims of abuse and neglect in West Hawai'i.
