TESTIMONY in Support of Bill No. 98
Relating to Amending Chapter 24 of the Hawaii County Code
Relating to Vehicles and Traffic
The Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for Hawaii County supports Bill No. 98 amending
Chapter 24 of the County Code which relates to Duties of Police to enforce the traffic laws. The
intent of this bill is to enable the Hawaii County Police Department to take advantage of section
291C -165.5 of the Hawaii Revised Statutes which allows officers to tow vehicles for certain
traffic offenses.
This law also aims to save lives as it would act as a deterrent for people who drive under
the influence of an intoxicant or without a license, whether that person has not been tested or
they have had their licensed suspended or revoked.
