Unfortunately I will not be able to attend this meeting but wanted to at
least make the committee aware that I am *opposed* to the appointment of Mr.
Manfredi to this position.
This is the second time the mayor has attempted to appoint Mr. Manfredi to
this position and the last time according to reports it was withdrawn when
there was a large public opposition to this appointment. I am not sure what
has changed, unless the Mayor feels this can be now slipped by the public
and the council without opposition.
The main concern is that the appointment of Mr. Manfredi to this commission
creates a gross conflict of interest as Mr. Manfredi has been and is
currently employed by developers encouraging the economic development of
areas of Kau for profit without regard to the needs of the community.
Although in recent years Mr. Manfredit has joined numerous boards and
committee's within the community it is still clear that his duties lie in
development. I am not sure if the committee's etc are to help with his
business or just as a smoke screen to shadow what his real commitment is.
The commission does not need to be continually stacked with developers if we
are to have faith that they will make land decisions that are consistent
with the needs of the community and ifs residents and not just inspired by
a profit motive. It should be a balanced commission and the addition of Mr.
Manfredi only leans it more towards developers.
Mr. Manfredi's recent actions in creating more "gentleman farms" in Kau,
although he chooses to use a new name is an indication that profit ( 2000
acres subdivided into 101 lots is more valuable)
is his prime and his sponsors prime concern not the coffee farmers that are
currently utilizing that land.
Please vote to deny another gross conflict of interest on the Planning
commission.
