Sako Deputy Director Re: Acquisition of 3 parcels of land at Kaiholena, North Kohala, Island of Hawaii, Tax Map Key(s): 5 -8- 01:21, 5 -8 -01:22 and access parcel 5 -8 -01:25 The Hawaii County Public Access, Open Space and Natural Resources Preservation Commission cited Kaiholena as a site where there are "Lands or property entitlements with high public interest, imminent needs for acquisition, and largest benefit to the general public." Resolution No. 644 -08, passed by the County Council on June 3, 2008, authorized the Director of Finance to enter into negotiations for acquisition of the subject parcels of land in the area collectively known as Kaiholena, in the District of North Kohala. On September 16, 2010, the County of Hawaii, applied for funding by grant from the State of Hawai'i, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Legacy Land Conservation Commission, for the acquisition of Kaiholena, Tax Map Key parcels 5 -8- 01:21, 22 and access Parcel 25 comprising of 76.615 acres. The Legacy Land Conservation Commission approved the County's application and granted the amount of $1,650,000, which the Board of Land and Natural Resources approved on February 11, 2011. Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii, Department of Land and Natural Resources, Legacy Land Conservation Commission and to accept funds for the acquisition of Kaiholena, District of North Kohala, Island of Hawaii.
