Re — STRONG SUPPORT FOR RESOLUTION 130 -11
To — Prohibit the Sale of Aquatic Life for Aquarium purposes.
First and foremost the collection of these fish for a frivolous hobby, is animal cruelty. You are
condemning them to early death. They are subject to inhumane treatment prior to shipping and a
large percentage are dead on arrival. I would classify this as depraved indifference! If they survive the
trip their life span is an average of one year . Some of these fish live over 40 years in the wild.
Approximately 50% Of the top 20 species are found only in Hawaii.
These invasive aggressive collectors can effect the well being of the coral reef and whole system.
There is no law limiting the number of fish you can gather, however, don't steal a rock...that's against
the law.
WHY HAS THERE NEVER BEEN AN ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW ? ? ?? Why so little concern
for our treasured natural resources'?
To make myself perfectly clear I don't care if the reef is so full of fish you could ladle them out. They
are our treasures and need to be left alone to live out their lives. They are not bothering anyone. Man
is the problem.
If someone wants to bL in the aquarium business I suggest they start breeding them commercially.
This is not a new concern, this debate has gone on for years and our fish and reefs are loosing to man's
greed and the indifference of our elected officials. Please change this and say NO MORE!
