My husband and I divide our lives between Wikoloa, HI and Barto, PA. Diving and snorkling continues
to be one of the greatest joys of our lives. Over the last 15 years, we've had the great pleasure of
introducing our children, grandchildren and many friends to the wonders of the Hawaiian sea shore and
it's amazing reef life. Weve taken them snorkling and diving in our favorite spots. I believe that the
wonders we've all encountered have changed all our lives for the better.
It breaks my heart to see this treasure abused by the wanton gathering of young fishes for sale in pet
shops. I know we are all aware that the deletion of species changes the entire food chain under the sea
and ultimately impacts the land, not to mention losing one of the most beautiful natural wonders in the
world. I realize that the numbers of fish can change from year to year, however there are some varieties
that we seldom see any more, and the quantities are not at all what they were even 10 years ago.
Please find it in your hearts to intervene and stop the further destruction of the fish. One of our good
friends who is a dive master at the Mauna Lani resort calls this the raping of the sea. Thank you for
