Aloha Council Members,
I am writing because of my concern for the health of Maui's ecosystems. I'm sure you are concerned about this
too as so much of Maui's economy is based on the health of the ocean.
I'm asking you to please support the aquarium trade ban so that we continue to have a balanced ecosystem
with lots of beautiful fish to attract visitors, feed us, and provide for future generations. Fish for the aquarium
trade should be raised and not taken from the wild.
It is terrible to hear that so many fish die in transport due to irresponsible human behavior. If aquarium collection
continues - the consequences are simple and yet dire: Maui reefs have less fish and an imbalanced ecosystem.
Which means an imbalanced economy and global ecosystem. No area of the shoreline should be allowed for
fish collecting. If we put up informational signs at the more populated beaches, the public will be informed, proud
of us for protecting our beaches and able to help protect the ocean ecosystem by reporting suspicious behavior.
I would support seed funding with responsible transport for a successful aquarium trade. Let's support the
aquarium trade AND keep the ecosystem healthy for future generations at the same time.
Please support the Aquarium Trade Ban!
