Dear County Council,
Below is our testimony opposing bill 270 with the
following comments:
Since this bill:
A) mandates more expensive building practices when
what is needed in Hawaii is more affordable housing,
B) outlines building codes appropriate for the
mainland that do not fit our Big Island environment,
C) and includes criminal penalties for non - compliance
on an island populated by people living in unique
configurations suited to this area, their finances, and
their desires as property owners,
...as long time residents & voters here on the Big
Island, we oppose Bill 270.
It is our understanding that Hawaii is supposed to be
moving towards self - sufficient sustainabilitax die 1 z$. ti

year 2050?
If so, there's no better time to start moving in this
direction via practical alternatives that suit this
population and this locale.
