harm to an already delicate economy. While the people who are the working � ' t titer ()ape
edge of survival our Council again chooses to make their lot in life worse. Our ar
Councilman Fred Blas voted for the International Building Code adaptation. I know Fred, Pete"'
and Brenda are the salt of the earth, with good intentions. However, the road to hell is paved
with good intentions. What does this plan bring except added expense to the citizen? For the
last five years Doris has worked zealously at the Building Dept. to keep our new buildings safe. I
had uncomfortable pleasure of watching her work. She insisted on fire extinguishers, fire
alarms and polycarbonate film to prevent damage from fire or Hurricane. So that was covered.
She zealously controlled bathrooms and considered them confined spaces even if the 49 CFR
1910 said other wise. Her logic I am sure better safe than sorry. Therefore that was covered.
She measured every aspect of your structure and would not allow a variance of a 1/4 ".
Hurricane straps were insisted upon. What is gained? Dr. Hapai had the whole hni`loa Center
built and ready for 26 million in half the time Mayor Kim's administration wasted 28 million
creating new leaks at the old County Building. His administration spent ten times what we
expected to convert J.C. Pennies into a habitable structure for, if memory serves me I believe 60
million dollars. Then we passed a law that created an astronomical fee for sewer hookup.
Mayor Kim's administration over paid consultants for bus stops that have yet to appear and spent
almost 10 million dollars for an unused recycle station. That is untrue, it is now the most
expensive storage facility in Hawaii.. The worst part is I personally like Fred, Pete and Brenda.
As for Harry I personally like him. Unemployment is now officially admitted to be over 6% and
we know that's a fairy tale. Foreclosure's are out of control and no relief is in site. Is this really
the time to impede contractors who are already suffering? Or is this a gift to contractors at the
expense of the people? Is the idea to make the people buyt foreclosures which will be exempt?
If the citizenry could see the logic you would have so many protesters.
Perhaps this is about bringing Hawaii into uniformity with the rest of the world. Right now we
should be thinking locally, instead of addressing imaginary problems. How hypocritical thre
County expects the people tobuild to a higher BUILDING standard than they recently built..
This is another way to collect revenue just like the sewage hookup fee. Everyone wants safety
but we must to eat and dress our children too.
I guess if you own a 300k house and have a nice county job this won't affect you. However if
you work at Walmart and want to build your first house the last two administrations have added
14K minimum to your dream. Which will hurt the General Contractor, the Electrical Contractor
, the Plumbing Contractor, ARGUS/HPM/HONSADOR.... Remember to say Aloha to your
elected leaders and remindr them of the upcoming election. Vote for people who understand that
lower taxes, fee's and local spending are what will stimulate the economy, not more control of
every facet of you life. People will just be made criminals for doing what they have too to place
a roof over their families heads. Our Founding fathers would have been appalled. To paraphrase
them " We are only guaranteed life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" He didn't say oh and
will micro manage you like King George.
