Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance adding the Traffic Calming Improvements — District 9
project for $46,700 to the Capital Budget. The project proposes to use Fair Share funding
to construct traffic calming improvements on adjacent roadways to neighborhood schools
in District 9. These funds will allow the construction and installation of flashing lights and
reduced speed limits in designated school zones and marked crosswalks.

A. REQUEST:
Amend Ordinance 11 -60, the Capital Budget by adding an appropriation for:
Traffic Calming Improvements for District 9 $ 46,780.00
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The project proposes to use Fair Share funding to construct traffic calming improvements on adjacent roadways to
neighborhood schools in District 9. These funds will allow the construction and installation of flashing lights and reduced
speed limits in designated school zones and marked crosswalks. These areas are experiencing high speed traffic and
pedestrian conflicts during parent drop off and parent pick up activities accompanying school related activities.

11. PROJECT JUSTIFICATION & OUTCOME(S) (List all that apply): Project will serve to slow traffic speed and protect pedestrian through residential neighborhoods and school zones.

15. IMPACT ON OPERATIONAL BUDGET: Projects will reduce the severity and number of pedestrian, school children and vehicle crashes due to speeding and risky driver behavior. This reduction
in crashes will reduce operational costs associated with a Police and EMS response, as well as costs associated with potential lav suits against the County.
16. SUSTAINABILITY FOCUS (List all that apply): (5) Promotes Health and Safety by designating school zones and providing marked crosswalks for pedestrians and school children.
