The State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources has authorized a
$96,457.50, federally derived Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant to the Hawaii Fire
Department. The grant's purpose is to provide for training and the acquisition of
equipment as specified under the Volunteer Fire Assistance program.
A Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant account was appropriated for $50,000 in anticipation
of grant funding for FY2011 -12. The actual grant award of $96,457.50 exceeds this
amount by $46,457.50.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by increasing the
total appropriation in the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant account by $46,457.50,
bringing the total appropriation to $96,457.50.

Please prepare a bill to increase the appropriation by $46,457.50 for the FY2011 -2012 Volunteer Fire
Assistance Grant, by Agreement between the State of Hawai'i, Department of Land and Natural Resources
and Hawai'i County Fire Department, and to appropriate funds for the project as follows:

B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED):
The Hawai'i County Fire Department applied for and was notified of the approval of the grant application for
the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program for $96,457.50 or $ 46,457.50 more than the FY2012
budgeted amount of $50,000. Funds will be used to purchase safety equipment for personnel at all fire
stations.

December 30, 2012.
