Sergeant Robert Pauole, Traffic Services section in Hilo appeared before Your Committee.
Sergeant Pauole commented that additional equipment, such as the intoxilyzer (formerly known
as a breathalyzer), needs to be available in case the older equipment breaks down. The
additional training to recruits and officers will be provided by expert trainers. He also
commented that there are only two officers trained in drug expert training (DRE specialized) and
the department needs to certify more officers with this capability.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Bill No. 107, and
recommends it pass first reading.
