Subject - Res. 140 -11 - Banning Aquatic Life for Aquarium purposes.
As stated before, gathering these beautiful fish for aquariums is animal cruelty and I also think
depraved indifference. Not a thought in the world for these beautiful creatures who would live long
lives if left alone. It's time everyone needs to look hard and long at the results of this inhumane
practice. Because in the end we are all responsible if we permit this senseless activity to occur.
When the little cove by the Royal Kona is filled with beautiful fish again, like 40 years ago I will then
believe that there isn't a problem.
These fish not only have their bladders pierced but also any sharp part of their bodies clipped off so
that the shipping bag isn't punctured. Of course they could double bag. They are also starved for several
days. This is so they don't defecate in their shipping bag and breath in this contaminate. No wonder a
huge percentage are dead on arrival in San Francisco etc.
These fish are treated no better than a box of Kleenex. Take one, use it, throw it away, another pops up.
But also like the box of Kleenex you will get to a point no more will pop up.
The inhumane treatment of the fish is bad enough however this practice and the effect it has on the
whole reef system environment is inexcusable for civilized people. Scientific evidence show that
without a doubt we are seriously damaging our whole system by this selfish occupation.
You can make a difference in what happens next.
