I urge you to vote AGAINST Bill 270, which would adopt a wholly inappropriate building code
for residential and rural Hawaii County. I'm angry that MY (supposedly) government wants to
impose ridiculous laws upon me and my neighbors that have no justification in anything but
usurping our rights to control our own lives (in aspects that have no bearing whatsoever on
others) without government interference. These new provisions of a revised building code
would be both costly and totally unnecessary. And the idea that people choosing of their own
free will to live is some non - conforming structure would be subjected to CRIMINAL penalties is
preposterous and an affront to anyone in this country who believes in the freedoms granted to
citizens under the Constitution.
Please, vote to DEFEAT Bill 270.
Vote to REMOVE section 5 -48 -5 on Page 17 that changes infractions from a civil to a criminal
offense.
Vote to INCLUDE a provision that should this Bill 270 pass, an alternative exemption for rural
building would be possible, i.e. The inclusion of an amendment stating "adoption of
this regulation does not limit or prevent the adoption of alternative codes and building
regulations by Hawaii County, nor does it require a future amendment to this bill."
If this unwarranted usurpation of power and government intrusion does pass, I will work to
defeat any and all council members who have supported it.
