Subject: intelligent, innovative building codes

I came to Hawaii to live more the way I believe in. It is common sense that humans need to be living in a way that
is sustainable, that will work over the long haul.
The building codes that are in place are outdated. As we learn more about why its important for humans to live
sustainably, and how to best do that, the building codes need to evolve.
Also, I'm thinking that the building codes are based on building codes for the main land. Let's stop imposing
mainland standards on our sub - tropical island.
It is not fair or appropriate for people to be penalized for not adhering to policies that are backwards, outdated,
and don't make sense. Do you want to just keep doing things the way we've been doing them just because that's
the way we've been doing them? Or do you want to do things the best way?
Please, please do not be arresting people for not adhering to the building codes, because they are inappropriate.
Not completely of course, but it needs to be distilled and the good stuff kept in, and the old, backwards,
mainland- appropriate stuff taken out. Let's be conscious about what we are expecting from our communities.
Lets creatively and intelligently craft the kind of development we want for our islands, for our precious aina. For a
better way of life.
