Subject: Testimony Regarding Bill 270
Aloha friends; I live in Pete Hoffman's district.
I am submitting testimony in support of making changes included in bill 270:
1. The inclusion of an amendment stating "adoption of this regulation does not limit or
prevent the adoption of alternative codes and building regulations by Hawaii County, nor
does it require a future amendment to this bill."
2. Removal of the section 5 -48 -5 on page 17 that changes infractions from a civil to a
criminal offense
As a farmer I can tell you first hand that affordable low cost housing structures are
needed island wide. This is no time to begin treating farmers and their workers as
criminals. Times are tough as it is without further burdening farms and farmers on Hawaii
Island. When the food stops coming from the mainland we are the ones that can be counted
on to help our fellow Hawaii Island residents.
PLEASE SUPPORT A FUTURE ALTERNATIVE RURAL LOW DENSITY BUILDING CODE. MAHALO!
