Sako Deputy Director The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division is providing federally derived funds of $13,300 for the purpose of supporting the Hawaii County Police Department's Working Towards Crime Lab Accreditation program. The funds from this grant will be used for training, equipment, and services to increase the overall efficiency and safety of forensic services. Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General for this grant. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $13,300 Working Towards Crime Lab Accreditation grant. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division is providing a grant for Crime Lab Accreditation training, equipment, and services to increase the overall efficiency and safety of forensic services. Equipment included are kevlar fiber fill for gun box to replace the current box which is over 30 year old, latent fingerprint digital imaging computer upgrade to increase the timeliness of forensic services and handheld laser measurer for crime scene diagrams /documentations. Services are for the disposal of hazardous chemcial materials by a licensed hazardous materials waste management company.
