Re: Comm. No. 406
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication 406, reports as follows:
Communication 406, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated October 5, 2011, nominates
Marilyn L. Nicholson to the County of Hawaii Public Access, Open Space, and Natural
Resources Preservation Commission.
A 37 -year resident of Hawaii, Ms. Nicholson in 2007 retired as the Executive Director for the
Volcano Art Center. Ms. Nicholson serves as a member of the Friends of Hawaii Volcanoes
National Park. She recently completed her term as a member of the County of Hawaii Cost of
Government Commission and Board of Ethics. Ms. Nicholson states that she is a Democrat. If
confirmed she will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2015.
Pursuant to Section 2 -215, Hawaii County Code, there shall be a public access, open space, and
natural resources preservation commission consisting of nine members, appointed by the mayor
and confirmed by the County Council.
Vice -Chair Dominic Yagong resumes chair for this matter.
Executive Assistant Charmaine Shigemura appeared before Your Committee to introduce
Ms. Marilyn L. Nicholson.
Council Member Brittney Smart seeks the support of Ms. Nicholson from her district to this
Commission.
The Committee specified that Ms. Nicholson must appear before the full Council for confirmation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication 406, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Ms. Marilyn Nicholson to the County of
Hawaii Public Access, Open Space, and Natural Resources Preservation Commission..
