Your Committee on Economic Development and Mass Transit, to which was referred
Communication No. 434, reports as follows:
Communication No. 434, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated October 17, 2011,
nominates Mr. Jon Olson to serve on the County of Hawai`i Transportation Commission.
A 33 year resident of Hawai`i, Mr. Jon Olson has been retired since 2000. He is the Vice
Commander of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3 -19 and a member of the Puna Friends
of the Park, Pahoa Main Street, and the Puna Traffic Safety Council. He states that he is a
Democrat. If confirmed, Mr. Jon Olson will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2014.
The Mayor's Executive Assistant, Charmaine Shigemura introduced Mr. Jon Olson and several
Council Members spoke in support of his appointment.
Council Member Onishi advised him that he need not appear before the full council for
confirmation.
Your Committee on Economic Development and Mass Transit is in accordance with the purpose
and intent of Communication 434 and recommends the appointment of Mr. Jon Olson to the
County of Hawai`i Transportation Commission.
