Re: Comm. No. 432
Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Communication 432, reports as follows:
Communication 432, transmitted by Mayor William P. Kenoi, dated October 13, 2011,
nominates Brian J. De Lima to the County of Hawai`i Salary Commission:
Mr. De Lima is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. He is an attorney at Crudele & De Lima,
Attorneys at Law. He is also the Big Island Representative to the Board of Education. From
1990 to 1996, Mr. De Lima was a member and former chair of the Hawaii County Council, and
from 1984 to 1996 he served on the Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club.
Mr. De Lima states that he is a Democrat. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2015, replacing Newton Inouye whose term expired on December 31, 2010.
Pursuant to Section 13 -28, Hawaii County Charter, there shall be a salary commission,
consisting of nine members, appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council.
Vice Chair Dominic Yagong resumes chair of the Finance committee.
Written communication was received from Mr. De Lima stating the reason of his absence from
today's committee meeting. The Committee specified that Mr. De Lima does not need to appear
before the full Council for confirmation.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Communication 432, and
recommends confirmation of the appointment of Mr. Brian De Lima to the County of Hawaii
Salary Commission.
